Aviation Security: United Kingdom

It has come to the attention of the Department of Foreign Affairs that authorities in the United Kingdom announced on 10 August 2006 that a heightened level of security will be implemented with immediate effect at all UK airports and on all airlines operating in to and out of the UK for as long as the situation demands.

According to reports this will entail that on certain flights only a small number of essential items will be allowed on board as hand luggage and most items normally taken as hand luggage will have to be checked in.

Airline passengers travelling between South Africa and the UK are advised to contact the airline they are using in order to obtain detailed information on how these arrangements may effect their specific flight, if at all.
