MS MH MPAKA TO ASK THE MINISTER OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS:
(a) What will be the cost to South Africa of hosting
the Pan-African Parliament,
(b) how does this cost compare with freedom, the sacrifices
made by the African masses to free South Africa and
the lives of those who died in the struggle for freedom
and
(c) what is South Africa's current contribution towards
a free South Africa, as compared to the contribution
made by Africa and the people of the world? N424E
REPLY:
(a), (b), (c)
The Pan-African Parliament is one of the most important
institutions of the African Union. It will be crucial
in the development and defence of common values around
democracy, human rights and good governance. It will
make sure that our Union and governments use the budgets
for sustainable development, fight against poverty and
a better life for all. For the integration process the
Pan-African Parliament is paramount.
The political and economic benefit to our country and
the continent cannot be costed.
African contribution to our freedom is priceless, it
cannot be measured in rands and cents.
South African foreign policy is not just motivated
by self-interest, but by the common good of humanity.
