View of the Department of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry with regard to the Relocation of the Africa Institute from the Department of Science and Technology to the Department of Foreign Affairs

MR D J SITHOLE (ANC) TO ASK THE MINISTER OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS :

(a) What is her department's and the Ministry's view with regard to the relocation of the Africa Institute from the Department of Science and Technology to her department and

(b) When is it anticipated that this process will take place?

REPLY:

It is our understanding that a number of research institutes are linked to the Department of Science and Technology as they are funded through the S & T vote. The Department of Foreign Affairs enjoys good relations and synergies with them, including the Africa Institute. Of course we would welcome the relocation if it was done with mutual concent of the two ministers - Science and Technology and Foreign Affairs.
