Advertisements by the Department of Foreign Affairs NATIONAL
ASSEMBLY FOR ORAL REPLY QUESTION NO: 768 PUBLISHED
IN INTERNAL QUESTION PAPER NO 16 OF 27 MAY 2005 Mr D H M Gibson (DA) to
ask the Minister of Foreign Affairs:
(I) What total amount in respect of
advertising has her Department and/or Ministry (a) budgeted for in the current
financial year and (b) spent as at the latest specified date for which information
is available; (2) what total number of advertisements (a) appeared in the print
media, (b) was broadcast on (ii) television in respect of (aa) vacant posts,
(bb) notices or announcements of tenders and (cc) other purposes; (3) what
was the purpose of the advertisements placed in the category "other purposes"
in each case; (4) whether any of the advertisements placed in the print media
to date included a photograph of her, her Deputy Minister, Director-General or
any of the Deputy Director-General; if so, in each case, (a) what was the purpose
of the advertisement and (b) (i) in which publication and (ii) on what date did
the advertisement appear; (5) whether she or any of her departmental officials
received any instructions from the Government Communication and Information System
(GCIS) to increase her department's rate of advertising between now and December
2005; if not, with whom were Ministry's and/or department's advertising plans
for the current financial year discussed; if so (a) when was the instruction received,
(b) what are the details of the instruction and (c) why did her Ministry and /or

An amount of R36,887.00 has been spent in the current financial year by 31 May
2005. (2) (a)(aa) 7 advertisements appeared in print media i.r.o. vacant
posts. (bb) 2 advertisements appeared in the print media i.r.o. tenders, viz.
DFA9-04/05 and DFA17 -04/05. (cc) No advertisements were placed in the print
