Mrs D van der Walt (DA) to ask the Minister of Foreign Affairs:
1. In view of the incident where a LRP (Locally Recruited Personnel) staff member, David Broekman, from the South African in The Hague, was dismissed and later exonerated by the Deputy minister of Foreign Affairs (Appeal Authority) and he reported for duty on 1 March 2007(i) why was the official sent home again and (ii) why was the official instructed to surrender his signed copy of the Acceptance of Duties of Research Assistant, and (iii) was the official paid any arrears(costs) regarding his salary; if not, why not; if so, what are the relevant details?
REPLY
1. (i) He was not sent home.
(ii) He was not instructed to surrender his signed copy of the Acceptance of Duties of Research Assistant.
(iii) He was not paid any arrears (costs) with regards to the payment of his salary. The Embassy through its lawyer is discussing the payment of the outstanding salary of Mr Broekman with his legal representative.
