Whether a delegation will be sent to Libya to attend the 40th Anniversary of Muammar Gaddafi’s reign; if not, why not; if so, (a) who will represent South Africa in this delegation, (b) how long will the delegation be in Libya, (c) what is the estimated cost of the visit and (d) what is South Africa’s foreign policy towards Libya? REPLY:
a) No.
b) South Africa was represented at the celebrations by the South African Ambassador in Tripoli, Ambassador Jeremiah Ndou.

d) South Africa has maintained cordial relations with Libya since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1995. A Joint Bilateral Commission (JBC) was inaugurated in 2005 during the official visit to Libya of former President Mbeki. South Africa supports the integration of Libya into the international political arena following the removal of sanctions.
