Whether the Government distances itself from the situation between Israel and Palestine (details furnished); if not, what is the position in this regard; if so what are the relevant details?

The South African Government’s position on the situation between Israel and Palestine is clear and unambiguous and is articulated internationally through statements in fora such as the UN Security Council, where South Africa is currently a non-permanent member; the UN General Assembly; and the Non-aligned Movement; as well as in formations such as BRICS and IBSA. Our position is also regularly communicated in our bilateral engagements with the Israelis, Palestinians and other concerned parties. In this context, South Africa consistently calls for an all-inclusive negotiated solution, leading to the establishment of a viable Palestinian state, existing side by side in peace with Israel within internationally recognised borders, based on those prevailing on 4 June 1967, before the start of the so-called Six-Day Arab-Israeli war and with East Jerusalem as its capital.
