PUBLISHED IN QUESTIONPAPER NO: 7-2013 OF 21 AUGUST 2013
MR EH ELOFF (DA) TO ASK THE MINISTER OF INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS AND COOPERATION:
(1) Will the Minister advocate for the SA Development Community (SADC) Tribunal to be reinstated; if not, why not; if so, in what ways will she pursue the matter?
REPLY:
(1) The SADC Ministers of Justice/Attorneys-General are currently dealing with the work programme of the SADC Tribunal and the implementation of the mandate on the SADC Tribunal arising from the decision of the August 2012 Summit in Maputo, Mozambique.
(2) South Africa, as part of the regional collective, will continue to support the development of policies, programmes and institutions that will contribute towards deeper regional economic and political integration. It is with that in mind that South Africa will participate in the formation of a new Protocol that will determine the terms of reference of the Tribunal, through the designated structures.
