QUESTION NO: 30 (CO34E)

PUBLISHED IN INTERNAL QUESTION PAPER NO 1-2013 OF 28 FEBRUARY 2013

MS B P MABE (ANC-GAUTENG) TO ASK THE MINISTER OF INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS AND COOPERATION:

Whether her department has any (a) plans and/or (b) strategies in place to address the low percentage of women at senior management level in her department; if not, why not; if so, (i) what (aa) plans and/or (bb) strategies and (ii) what are the further relevant details? CO34E

REPLY:

The Department has a five year Employment Equity Plan (2010-2015), which seeks to advance the equal representation of all races and gender in accordance to the Economically Active Population released by the Stats SA through the Labour Force Quarterly Survey. The Department also has set targets to ensure 50% representation of women at SMS levels in line with the Cabinet Directive.

The Departmental EE Plan makes provision for Affirmative Action measures which aim to increase the number of women at SMS levels. The recruitment and selection processes also take into consideration the EE targets as contained in the EE Plan. The plan includes strategies to capacitate and upgrade the skill levels of women to enable them to progress to SMS positions in the Department.
