Deputy President Ramaphosa to attend the second Africa-Turkey Summit in Equatorial Guinea
Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa will depart on Thursday 20 November 2014 for Malabo where he will represent South Africa at the 2nd Africa-Turkey Summit of Heads of State and Government in Equatorial Guinea from Thursday to Friday 20-21 November 2014.
The Summit is expected to be opened by the President of Equatorial Guinea Teodoro Obiang Nguema, Chairperson of the African Union, President Mohamed Ould Abdel Azia of Mauritania and the Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Dr. Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma.
Organised around the theme -New Model of partnership for the strengthening of sustainable development and integration- is expected to discuss among other key issues the matrix of the key projects, an implementation plan as well as summit outcomes declaration.
While Africa proposed a number of projects for consideration, the key focus of the Africa-Turkey matrix projects is currently focussed on the following areas:
- Peace and security looking into counter-terrorism and the training of national police forces
- Trade and investment focussing on capacity building
- Culture, tourism and education
- Youth empowerment
- Technology transfer
- Rural economy and Agriculture
- Infrastructure, Energy, ICT and Transport
The Summit is expected to be preceded by a Ministerial and senior government officials meetings whose recommendations will serve as a basis for discussions and decision-making by heads of states and government culminating in the adoption of the Summit Declaration.
Deputy President Ramaphosa is also expected to hold several bilateral discussions on the margins of the Summit before returning to South Africa later on Friday 21 November 2014.
