The Outbreak of Ebola Haemorrhagic Fever in the Republic of Guinea

The South African Government has learnt with great shock and sadness following the outbreak of Ebola Haemorrhagic Fever in the Republic of Guinea that resulted in the loss of lives. In this regard, the South African Government wishes to convey heartfelt condolences and sympathy to the Republic of Guinea and the bereaved families of those who lost their loved ones.

The Government of South Africa wishes to acknowledge and laud the work of the Guinean Ministry of Health, in conjunction with the World Health Organisation and Doctors without Borders to contain the outbreak of Ebola Fever in the Republic of Guinea. South Africa also notes the efforts undertaken by the Government of the Republic of Guinea to contain the spreading of the virus to neighbouring countries.

The South African Government is confident that the measures taken by the Guinean Government to eliminate this public health emergency, with the assistance of international partners such as amongst others the World Health Organisation and Doctors without Borders, are significant and it would soon bring the situation under control.
