Minister Nkoana-Mashabane arrives in Ethiopia to take part in the Executive Council of the AU
International Relations and Cooperation Minister Maite Nkoana-Mashabane has arrived in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, to participate in the 26th Ordinary Session of the Executive Council of the African Union (AU), scheduled for 26-27 January 2015. The Executive Council Meeting, which is at Ministerial level, takes place ahead of the AU Summit on 28-31 January 2015.
The 2015 AU Summit will be held under the theme: "Year of Women's Empowerment and Development towards Africa’s Agenda 2063". It is expected that the Summit will consider the adoption of Agenda 2063, a fifty-year continental trajectory.
In this regard, the Executive Council Meeting will consider the AU Commission’s Report on Agenda 2063 before it is presented to the Assembly Heads of State and Government for adoption.
Amongst other matters, the Executive Council Meeting is expected to consider reports related to health, especially on the AU’s coordinated response to addressing the scourge of Ebola in West Africa; peace and security-related issues, including terrorism; development, financial, trade and administrative issues; as well as alternative sources of financing the AU. The Executive Council will also discuss country-specific matters on the Continent, as well as the situation in the Middle East and Palestine.
