MRS C DUDLEY (ACDP) TO ASK THE MINISTER OF INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS AND COOPERATION:
(1) With reference to the fairly recent incident where a staff member in the South African Mission in Iran suddenly became ill and subsequently died in a hospital in Tehran (a) how difficult was it to investigate his death and (b) was it investigated.
(2) (a) does diplomacy in the Middle East require compromise in such situations and (b) what can be done about this situation? NW2169E

(1) (a) A post-mortem determined official’s death was as a result of natural causes. Tribute is paid to the official’s exemplary service as the member of the South African Diplomatic Corps.
