MR S MOKGALAPA (DA) TO ASK THE MINISTER OF THE DEPARTMENT OF INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS AND COOPERATION:
- Which countries have (a) been invited by her department to and (b) confirmed their attendance at the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation Summit to be held on 4 and 5 December 2015;
- What is the rationale behind inviting the delegations of the specified countries to the specified summit?
REPLY:
- (a) FOCAC is made up of 50 members and all of them were invited.
The 50 African Member Countries are: Algeria, Angola, Benin, Botswana, Burundi, Cameroon, Cape Verde, the Central African Republic, Chad, the Republic of Congo, Union of Comoros, Cote d' ivoire, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Djibouti, Egypt, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Gabon, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea Bissau, Kenya, Lesotho, Liberia, Libya, Madagascar, Malawi, Mali, Mauritania, Mauritius, Morocco, Mozambique, Namibia, Niger, Nigeria, Rwanda, Senegal, Seychelles, Sierra Leone, Somalia, (South Africa), Sudan, South Sudan, Tanzania, Togo, Tunisia, Uganda, Zambia, and Zimbabwe.
Observer Countries invited were: Burkina Faso, Sao Tome and Principe, and Swaziland.
The Gambia was invited as a Special Guest.
(b) All FOCAC Member Countries participated at different levels. In total, there were 48 Heads of State/Government, 5 Heads of Delegation, 38 Foreign Ministers, 24 Trade Ministers and 29 other Ministers in attendance.
Among the Observers, Swaziland and Burkina Faso were not present.
2. FOCAC is made up of African countries who have established diplomatic relations with China and invitations were sent out to all FOCAC Member Countries.
