What does a village in Gabon look like? Have you ever taken a picture next to the Eiffel Tower? What does the food in Kuweit taste like or the traditional drinks in Cuba or the Philippines? Where is Suriname and what will the United Kingdom’s bloodhound do in the Northern Cape in 2015? How do you write your name in Japanese or Chinese? What is the traditional dress of Senegal, Zambia, Iraq, India or Azerbaijan?
These questions and many others can now be answered by thousands of people who attended this year’s Diplomatic Fair at the Union Buildings on Saturday, 25 October 2014. Hosted by the Department of International Relations and Cooperation (DIRCO), in partnership with the City of Tshwane, the Diplomatic Fair offers foreign embassies’ accredited to South African the opportunity to showcase and promote cultural diplomacy through art, music, dancing, food and other creative ways.
Late in the afternoon, the crowd was treated to performances by Mafikizolo, DJ Heavy and Dr Malinga, among others.
In the evening, the City of Tswhane hosted a gala dinner for the participating embassies where Gabon defended their title by being awarded the best exhibitor at this year’s event. |
