Mandela Day

Welcome message from Consul General:

Fellow compatriots, friends and the people of The UAE

As Salaamu Alaikum

Welcome to the website of the Consulate-General of South Africa in Dubai.

As the 5th Head of Mission, South African Consul General in Dubai, it is indeed my pleasure and honour to arrive during this post Covid 19 era in this extraordinary avant garde metropolis, Dubai.

Dubai has indeed benchmarked development in the true sense of the word: architectural, science & innovation, tourism, international transport & business to a new unprecedented level.

As President Matamela Cyril Ramaphosa eloquently articulated during the 4th South Africa Investment Conference in March 2022, the importance of Economic Diplomacy is a Foreign Policy imperative.

In addition to that, Cultural, Academic and Sporting relations should be advanced to levels previously unseen.

South Africa should be ready to participate with its peers in the changing global environment caused by conflict, climate change and political polarisation.

In the aftermath of The Dubai Expo 2020, held from October 2021 to March 2022, the first in the Middle East and the most successful technological and innovative Expo ever held, we owe it to our people to reap the benefits of this trailblazing event. Let us build on this solid foundation and reputation.

The Dubai Mission has a vital role to play and we should keep our eye on the ball. The outreach to our 60,000 expat community should be strategically encouraged.

The diverse and multicultural rainbow team at The Consulate with its deep institutional memory is ready to engage into a higher gear and become an important link with the people of The UAE.

In conclusion, I look forward to an exciting 4 years in this bustling heartbeat of The United Arab Emirates.

The Consulate General of the Republic of South Africa in Dubai, under the authority of the Department of International Relations and Cooperation (DIRCO), wishes to advise all South African citizens residing in the United Arab Emirates to exercise heightened vigilance in light of the evolving situation in the region.

While local authorities in the UAE continue to manage the situation effectively, South African nationals are strongly encouraged to take precautionary measures to ensure their safety, well-being and preparedness.

South African citizens are advised to:

  • Basic first aid items
  • Chargers and essential electronics
  • Establish a family and community communication plan in case of mobile network or internet disruptions.

Embassy Monitoring and Updates

Local authorities are actively implementing measures to maintain public safety, and we remain confident in their ongoing efforts.

We kindly request that South African nationals remain vigilant in monitoring official Embassy communications and mobile alerts issued by the local authorities and adhere to the guidance provided.

South African citizens requiring consular assistance are encouraged to contact the South African Embassy in Abu Dhabi or the Consulate General in Dubai through official channels.
