ADVISORY TO SOUTH AFRICAN CITIZENS RESIDING IN THE UNITED ARAB EMIRATES

The Consulate General of the Republic of South Africa in Dubai, under the authority of the Department of International Relations and Cooperation (DIRCO), wishes to advise all South African citizens residing in the United Arab Emirates to exercise heightened vigilance in light of the evolving situation in the region.

While local authorities in the UAE continue to manage the situation effectively, South African nationals are strongly encouraged to take precautionary measures to ensure their safety, well-being and preparedness.

South African citizens are advised to:

  •  Register immediately with the South African Mission if not already registered, to enable timely communication in the event of emergencies.
  • Limit non-essential movement and avoid large gatherings, crowded areas and areas where security incidents may occur as a routine safety measure.
  •  Strictly follow official guidance issued by UAE authorities and comply with all local laws and regulations.
  • Remain connected by maintaining regular contact with family members and ensuring that mobile devices remain charged and operational.
  • Stay alert to your surroundings and maintain a reasonable distance from windows and open public facing areas.
  • Avoid military and restricted areas and stay within residential areas to reduce exposure to sensitive locations.
  • Avoid spreading of unverified information or rumours, particularly on social media platforms. Citizens are urged to rely only on official communication from UAE authorities and the South African Mission.

Ensure Emergency Preparedness

Please ensure the following steps are up to date:

  •  Keep passports, South African IDs, visas, and residency permits valid and readily accessible.
  • Maintain an emergency “grab-and-go” kit with essential items such as:
  • Important documents
  • Medication and prescriptions
  • Basic first aid items
  • Chargers and essential electronics
  • Establish a family and community communication plan in case of mobile network or internet disruptions.

Embassy Monitoring and Updates

Local authorities are actively implementing measures to maintain public safety, and we remain confident in their ongoing efforts.

We kindly request that South African nationals remain vigilant in monitoring official Embassy communications and mobile alerts issued by the local authorities and adhere to the guidance provided.

South African citizens requiring consular assistance are encouraged to contact the South African Embassy in Abu Dhabi or the Consulate General in Dubai through official channels.

Rapidly Evolving Situation

Considering the rapidly evolving circumstances, we strongly recommend staying informed by diligently following reputable media outlets for the latest updates.

The Mission continues to monitor developments closely and will provide further updates as necessary and available.
