Thank you for visiting our official website. Whether you are planning to visit South Africa, are keen to pursue economic interests in South Africa or are interested in the activities of the Embassy, we hope that you find the information useful.

South Africa is open for business and continues to provide a wealth of opportunities for those looking at investing in an emerging market that boasts a stable democracy, As an emerging market economy, we boast world-class infrastructure, a highly developed and sophisticated banking system, an independent judiciary, the largest ports on the African continent and, our greatest asset – our highly resourceful people – who are ready to get to work and get the job done.

South Africa is one of the most promising emerging markets globally. The unique combination of a highly developed first-world economic infrastructure and a huge emergent market economy has given rise to a strong entrepreneurial and dynamic investment environment. Its investment potential lies in its diversity of sectors and industries. It is also a major trading nation, from a location that makes it an ideal gateway into African and other global markets through access enhanced by its trade agreements including the Africa Continental Free Trade Area. South Africa's value proposition therefore also includes the most diversified economy in Africa and the region’s principal manufacturing hub and services destination; the largest presence of MNCs on the African continent; advanced financial service and banking sector with significant footprints in the continent; endowed with an abundance of natural resources and an excellent quality of life.

Indonesia and South Africa have strong and strategic economic relations that continues to grow. Recent figures indicate a growth in trade to around 16% in 2022. Some South African products you will find in Indonesia include fresh fruit and vegetables, wine, juices, and manufactured goods. South Africa also has some of the highest quality Halal products from food to cosmetics. The potential for export of South African products into Indonesia is exponential. Should you be interested in our products and services, the Embassy trade section can be contacted to facilitate B2B engagements.

South Africa remain a premier destination for tourism and always welcome an opportunity to welcome you to our country of beautiful scenery, wildlife, beaches, and amazing climate. What is more important however is that you will meet culturally diverse South Africans, waiting to welcome you to our rainbow nation! I am encouraged at the growth of our tourism and the increasing number of Indonesians visiting South Africa.

                          | Diplomatic relations between South Africa and Indonesia were formalised in 1994, although historical ties between the two countries date back more than three centuries and span culture, religion and politics. The most famed cultural symbol of these linkages is the batik shirt which former President Nelson Mandela was introduced to whilst in Indonesia and adopted as a personal trademark, affectionately known as the “Madiba Shirt” from then onwards. The South African Embassy was opened in Jakarta on 17 December 1995, and works to maintain and deepen relations between the between the governments and peoples of the two countries. In addition to the friendly bilateral relations, South Africa and Indonesia are also partners in various multilateral fora including the United Nations, G20, IORA and NAM. The South African Embassy is also accredited to Timor Leste and ASEAN. The Embassy stands ready to assist South African Citizens visiting, living and working in Indonesia; and Indonesian citizens travelling for varied purposes to South Africa. The Embassy is located at Suite 705, 7th Floor Wisma GKBI, Jalan Jendral Sudirman, in Jakarta. |
