Dr Bobby J. Moroe

Dr Bobby J. Moroe is a South African Diplomat who has served his country with distinction for 18 years in the Department of International Relations and Co-operation (formerly the Department of Foreign Affairs). A former student leader at the North West University in Mahikeng, South Africa, and an erudite academic, a writer, researcher and an avid reader. Over the years, he contributed immensely in the growing body of knowledge in the field of diplomacy and international relations. He has written his first book on the relations between South Africa and India titled: ‘South Africa and India – A Perspective on Post-Apartheid Diplomatic Relations’.
 
He is currently the Consul-General of South Africa in Lagos, Nigeria. As Consul-General, his major responsibilities includes, inter alia, promote trade and investment between South Africa and Nigeria, promote and protect South Africa's Foreign Policy, promote social cohesion through people-to-people contact, and position South Africa as a preferred destination of choice for trade, investment, tourism, education, amongst others.

In order to promote social cohesion, he worked closely with both South African and Nigerian youth organizations/NGO’s to activate youth-led engagements. Dr Moroe has written extensively about his experiences and encounters on issues related to youth development between the two countries, and how the two countries can further enhance their relations as continental giants, making use of youth as conduits. His works on the relations between South Africa and Nigeria have been widely published by national and international publications/media houses, and are easily accessible through internet.  

Before his deployment to Nigeria, Dr Moroe served DIRCO in numerous positions including Speech Writer to the Minister, head of DIRCO’s Operations Centre, and head of office of the Director-General. In all these positions, he focused on transforming the administrative and management machineries of the various units for more efficiency and maximum output.

As Consul-General of South Africa in Lagos, he will continue to leverage all opportunities available for South Africa in Nigeria.
