Message by the Head of mission
It is my pleasure to welcome you to the South African Embassy website. With this website we intend to present a bigger picture of the functioning and activities of the South African Government through links of various government departments and institutions. This website is intended to be a one-stop shop for access to online government information and services, and to give a perspective of South Africa's national and international interests.
South Africa's foreign policy priorities are essentially anchored on the African continent through its activities in the South African Development Community (SADC) and the broade regional initiatives through the African Union and its programme of development, NEPAD.
Our foreign policy is predicated on making South Africa, the African continent and the rest of the world a better place. It is for this reason that we are heavily involved in the work of the African Union, conflict resolution, and peacekeeping operations, to name a few.
Since the democratization in 1994, our country has made great strides on both the political and economic fronts. We have a stable political system that has seen four rounds of peaceful democratic elections. Our economy has grown remarkably and more markets for South African products were opened in parts of the world where they did not exist previously.
The country is now strongly interconnected with the rest of the globe. We export a vast range of products to many countries in all continents. Our exports to the world have been increasing vastly over the years, although we were also greatly affected by the global financial and economic crisis. This website is a small window into South Africa. Here you will learn about the work that our Embassy is involved in.
