NEPAD to host Multi-Stakeholder Dialogue
to Commemorate its Anniversary, 22 - 23 October 2004
Three years ago, a new voice rose to defend the interests
of Africa, too often forgotten continent: NEPAD was
born then.
In commemoration of the third Anniversary of NEPAD,
the NEPAD Secretariat will be hosting a 2 day Multi-Stakeholder
Dialogue in Johannesburg, South Africa. The event is
scheduled for 22 and 23 October 2004.
The Multi-Stakeholder will be attended by some Heads
of State and Government of NEPAD, namely President Thabo
Mbeki of South Africa, Olusegun Obasanjo of Nigeria,
Abdellaziz Bouteflika of Algeria, Abdoulaye Wade of
Senegal, and Hosni Mubarak of Egypt. President Joaquim
Chissano of Mozambique former Chair of the African Union,
Alpha Oumar Konare, Chairperson African Union Commission,
African Ministers directly involved with NEPAD, the
Heads of Multilateral Institutions like, WB, ADB, and
UN Organizations have also been invited to attend.
The aim of the Dialogue is:
Take stock of what has been achieved under the NEPAD
programme during the past 3 years through: -
- Reporting back on the activities of the different
priority sectors of NEPAD, including current status
of projects
- Reporting back on the interaction with RECs with
respect to the implementation of NEPAD
- Outlining planned activities for all NEPAD priority
areas
- Launching the NEPAD annual report
- Discussing with stakeholders and exploring mechanisms
for accelerating the implementation of NEPAD and increasing
ownership by countries.
