Fellow South Africans,
Our achieving democracy has yielded us a nation with many wonderful opportunities throughout the world. This is borne out by the fact that so many of our people now travel abroad for a variety of reasons.
The Department of International Relations and Cooperation, through the Chief Directorate: Consular Services, as well as our Diplomatic and Consular representatives abroad provide assistance and support to our people. We will continue to carry out this obligation to the best of our ability. This will be done taking into account available resources, respecting international conventions and in line with our stated foreign policy objectives.
May I also use this opportunity to remind you to respect the laws of the countries in which you work and study and through which you travel.
During the past few years, we have assisted a growing number of our people who have become victims of crime, accidents, illness, death, natural/man-made disasters, civil unrest or whose family or next of kin needed to contact them in emergency. To this end, the Chief Directorate Consular Services requests South African Citizens, both individual and group travellers, to register at the nearest South African Embassy, or South African High Commission, or South African Consulate General or at a South African Consulate abroad (South African Representation Abroad)
Travel Well!
