President Mbeki to lead South African Delegation at NEPAD Multi Stakeholder Dialogue

Johannesburg- President Thabo Mbeki will lead the South African delegation to the NEPAD Multi- Stakeholder Dialogue, scheduled for 22-23 October 2004 at the Sandton Convention Centre, Johannesburg.

The NEPAD Stakeholder Dialogue will be chaired by President Olusegun Obasanjo in his capacity as the Chairperson of the NEPAD Heads of State Implementation Committee.

Other African leaders expected to attend the meeting include Presidents Abdelaziz Bouteflika , Abdoulaye Wade, Joaquim Chissano and the Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Prof. Alpha Konare.

The aim of the Dialogue is to take stock of achievements made through the NEPAD programme during the past 3 years through:

  • Reporting back on the activities of the different priority sectors of NEPAD, including current status of projects
  • Reporting back on the interaction with REC's with respect to the implementation of NEPAD
  • Outlining planned activities for all NEPAD priority areas
  • Launching the NEPAD annual report
  • Discussing with stakeholders and exploring mechanisms for accelerating the implementation of NEPAD and increasing ownership by countries.
