Ambassador’s Message

Welcome to the website of the Embassy of South Africa in Beijing which serves to promote South Africa’s interest in the People’s Republic of China. Together with my team at the Embassy as well as the Consulates-General in Shanghai and Hong Kong, we seek to advance efforts to promote South Africa’s national interests and values, the African Renaissance and the creation of a better world for all. South Africa is a country blessed with an abundance of natural resources, a unique combination of a well-developed first world economic infrastructure alongside a vibrant emerging market economy. We sustain a globally competitive financial sector and boast a modern transportation and logistics system as well as an advanced information and communications technology infrastructure. South Africa is a major player on both continental and global economic landscape and an attractive destination for inward investment, trade and business. We invite you to explore these opportunities.

South Africa is also a popular tourist destination, offering visitors unforgettable and unique experiences including culture, natural beauty, wildlife, history, food and wine. We have 11 visa application centres in mainland China to better facilitate visa applications. The bilateral relations between South Africa and the People’s Republic of China are of historic significance and strong since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1998. They are guided by our Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Agreement as well as the Ten-Year Strategic Programme of Action. (2020-2029). They focus on political, economic and people to people exchanges. To this end, bilateral mechanisms such as The Bi-National Commission (BNC), The High-Level People-to-People Exchange Mechanism (PPEM), The Joint Working Group (JWG) and The Strategic Dialogue have been established to facilitate and enhance political interests and economic objectives of the diplomatic relations. South Africa and China do not only cooperate bilaterally but also partner in many other multilateral organisations where the two countries find common ground. South Africa attributes the good relations to sustained communication at the highest level on key issues of interest, with a partnership that involves exchanges at high-level visits and meetings on the margins of several multilateral fora. These, among others, include the BRICS and FOCAC forums. Since the establishment of the diplomatic tie between South African and China, South Africans and Chinese have made significant contributions to each other’s lives. Consequently, it is in the fundamental interests of both Chinese and South African people to strengthen and consolidate bilateral relations to tackle common challenges and continue to increase political mutual trust, expand cooperation in all fields, and advance the strategic friendship between South Africa and China to a higher level.

The Mission is committed to inculcating the spirit of Ubuntu and the “Batho Pele” (People First) principles, in the provision of its services, which is reflective of our country’s values of putting humanity central to all that we do.

We remain a prime destination for tourism which offers beautiful scenery, wildlife, beaches, amazing climate, and culturally diverse South Africans, waiting to welcome you to our rainbow nation!
