Minister Dlamini Zuma to Present Awards
at the Joint Government - Tribute Magazine - SABC Africa
Day Celebrations
Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Nkosazana Dlamini
Zuma, will today, Friday 24 May present awards for excellence
at the Joint Government-Tribute Magazine-SABC Africa
Day Celebrations at the Sandton Convention Centre in
Johannesburg.
President Thabo Mbeki will deliver a keynote address
at the function to mark the 39 th Anniversary of the
formation of the Organisation of African Unity which
was formed in 1963 to help the African people in their
struggles against colonialism and apartheid.
Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Dlamini Zuma who will
be assisted by sponsors of the function, will present
10 categories of awards in the fields of black economic
empowerment; leadership; sports; business; health; science
and technology; entertainment and women and the Premier
Award.
Guests will be treated to an audio-visual on "Peace,
Prosperity and Development for the African Century"
which will feature speeches of the late Kwame Nkrumah,
Julius Nyerere, Oliver Tambo and former President Nelson
Mandela, and music by the Soweto Strings Quartet, Vusi
Mahlasela, Africa Mamas and BuskAid. The function
is scheduled to begin at 18h30-for 19h00.
The Joint Government-Tribute Magazine-SABC TV function
is part of a nationwide Africa Day celebrations that
will be held in the various provinces of the country
as an integral part of popularising the AU and NEPAD.
