Statement on the Death of Jonas Savimbi,
Leader of the UNITA Rebel Movement in Angola
The South African Government has been formally and
officially informed of the death of Dr Jonas Savimbi,
leader of the UNITA rebel movement in Angola.
The South African Government expresses its hope that
the Government and people of Angola will, despite all,
nonetheless, forge ahead to ensure the full implementation
of the Lusaka Protocol with a view to bringing about
a lasting reconciliation, security and stability to
Angola.
