Media Statement on the 75th Ordinary Session of the OAU Council of Ministers, Addis Ababa, 13-15 March 2002

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma will lead the South African delegation to the 75th Ordinary Session of the OAU Council of Ministers meeting and Tenth Ordinary Session of the African Economic Community in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia from Wednesday 13th March 2002 to Friday, 15th March 2002. The delegation will include South African Ambassador to the OAU, Kingsley Mamabolo.

An important issue to be addressed at the Council of Ministers will be the Implementation of the Sirte and Lusaka Summit decisions on the development of the Organs of the African Union for it to be launched at the Inaugural Summit in South Africa in July 2002.

Ministers at the Council will be briefed on political developments in a number of OAU member states. Since Minister Dlamini Zuma is the co-ordinator of the countries of the region on the implementation of the OAU process of returning the Comoros to constitutional government, the Minister will brief the Council of Ministers on the latest developments in this regard.

The Council of Ministers will also consider a Report from the
Secretary-General on the activities of the organization for the period July 2001 to February 2002 and discuss issues relating to the finances and administration of the organization.
