Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma, Offers Condolences to the Family of Godfrey Fitz

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma today, Thursday, 5th December 2002, was informed of the positive identification of the mortal remains of Godfrey Fitz who died during the Bali bomb blast which left over 200 people dead and scores of others wounded.

Godfrey Fitz’s mortal remains were identified through the Disaster Victim Identification (DVI) forensics team in Denpasar, Bali. Fitz, a South African teacher by profession was a member of the Taiwan rugby team visiting Bali at the time of the blast.

In this regard, South African embassy officials in Jakarta, Indonesia will travel to Bali to receive Fitz’s mortal remains, death, embalming and DVI identification certificates, and to facilitate the repatriation of Fitz’s body to South Africa.

Minister Dlamini Zuma expresses the condolences of the South African Government to members of the bereaved family, friends and colleagues. The Minister further extended the gratitude of the government to the authorities and peoples of Indonesia and Australia for the assistance rendered in this matter.
