Statement on the Presidential Election
in France
The South African Government welcomes the outcome of
the French Presidential election as announced on Sunday,
5th May 2002.
South Africa extends its congratulations to President
Chirac on his re-election as the French Head of State.
The South African Government expresses its confidence
that the excellent bilateral relations between France
and South Africa will continue.
In this context it is our conviction that we can count
on the support of France in our endeavours to push back
the frontiers of poverty and underdevelopment, not only
in our country but the continent in general, within
the framework of NEPAD.
We are certain that the bond of friendship, mutual
respect and solidarity which bind our two countries
will endure and strengthen into the future.
