Statement on the Air Crash in Kano,
Northern Nigeria
The Government of South Africa expresses its shock
and sympathy at the news of the crash of the commercial
passenger aircraft in Kano, Northern Nigeria on Saturday,
4th May 2002.
The Government of South Africa conveys its deepest
condolences to the Government and people of the Republic
of Nigeria and to the families of the victims who have
perished during the crash.
The people of South Africa grieve with the people of
Nigeria at this difficult and painful moment.
The State Visit that President Obasanjo was scheduled
to pay to South Africa from 6-7 May 2002, at the invitation
of President Mbeki, has consequently been deferred.
