Statement on South Africans Attacked
in Seychelles
The two South Africans who were attacked while on holiday
in the Seychelles on Monday 22 September arrived back
in Cape Town on Wednesday 24 September 2003, after being
treated and released from a Seychelles hospital, according
to South Africa's Acting High Commissioner to Mauritius,
Aaron Mudimeli.
The two were attacked by two masked and armed robbers,
while having dinner at a private residence of a friend
in Anse a la Mouche in Seychelles. The two South Africans
had arrived the same day for a holiday in Seychelles
and were joined for dinner by other family members who
had arrived in Seychelles earlier.
From the attack, one suffered knee injuries whilst
the other dislocated his left shoulder and received
injuries to his face. They were treated at a local hospital
and discharged. None of the other family members who
were with them during the attack were wounded.
According to Seychelles police, a suspect has already
been arrested in connection with this crime and will
appear in court soon. Both victims and their family
members have now returned to South Africa and are expected
to return to Seychelles for a court appearance later.
