WSSD: Interpreting Services at the Summit:
TISSA
17 August - 6 September 2002
The Department of Arts and Culture is pleased to announce
that, in collaboration with the SA Police Service, the
Telephone Interpreting Service for South Africa (TISSA)
will provide interpreting services at the World Summit
on Sustainable Development (WSSD). The TISSA service
will be available on a 24 hour, seven days a week basis
at designated 20 police stations and five other sites
around the WSSD venue for the duration of the Summit
(17 August - 6 September).
The telephonic interpreting service will be available
between English and Arabic, French, German, Italian,
Portuguese, Spanish, and Swahili, in addition to the
official South African languages should delegates require
security-related assistance.

TISSA is a project of the Department of Arts and Culture,
is jointly funded by the Department and the Pan South
African Language Board (PanSALB), and is managed by
the Unit for Language Facilitation and Empowerment at
the University of the Free State.
