Minister Dlamini Zuma Meets SAFA 2010
Bid Committee Members in Qatar
Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Nkosazana Dlamini
Zuma today Monday 20 October 2003 received a briefing
from members of the SAFA 2010 Bid Committee in Qatar.
Minister Dlamini Zuma is on a two day visit to Qatar
to consolidate political, economic and trade relations
between South Africa and Qatar. In this regard, Minister
Dlamini Zuma had earlier on Monday signed two bilateral
trade agreements, viz the Reciprocal Promotion and Protection
of Investment Agreement; and the Economic, Technical
and Commercial Agreement with Qatari Minister of Economy
and Commerce, Sheikh Hamad bin Faisal Al Thani.
Minister Dlamini Zuma also held discussions with the
top management of the Qatar Industrial Development Bank
to facilitate trade between South Africa and Qatar.
In her discussions with SAFA 2010 Bid Committee members,
Ivan Khoza, Danny Jordaan and Molefe Oliphant, Minister
Dlamini Zuma was briefed on the state of readiness for
the bid, the balance of forces internationally, and
the forthcoming visit of FIFA inspection members to
South Africa scheduled for 30 October 2003.
Minister Dlamini Zuma expressed the Government's appreciation
for the efforts of the Bid Committee with the overall
objective of securing the Soccer World Cup Games for
South Africa. In this regard Minister Dlamini Zuma reiterated
the commitment of the Government to do anything in its
power to assist the Bid Committee in its endeavours
at home and abroad.
Minister Dlamini Zuma is scheduled to meet with Qatari
Prime Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Khalifa Al-Thani;
the Consort of His Highness the Emir of Qatar Sheikha
Mouza bint Nasser Al-Misnad; Minister of State for Foreign
Affairs Ahmed Bin Abdulla Al Mahmoud and First Deputy
Prime Minister Hamad bin Jassim bin Jabr Al -Thani on
Tuesday, 21st October 2003 within the overall objective
of strengthening relations between the two countries.
