President Mbeki Extends Condolences
to President of Azerbaijan
President Thabo Mbeki, today, Thursday - 18 December
2003 - extended the condolences of the South African
government and people to President Ilham Heydar oglu
Aliyev, government and people of Azerbaijan following
the death of former President, Haydar Alirza Ogly Aliyev.
"It was with profound sadness that we received
the news of the passing away of the former President
and your father, His Excellency Mr Haydar Alirza Ogly
Aliyev on 12 December 2003 after a long illness."
"Please accept, Your Excellency, our sincere condolences
on behalf of the Government and the people of the Republic
of South Africa and be assured that our thoughts and
prayers are with the Azerbaijan people and in particular
with the Aliyev family," concluded President Mbeki.
