Minister Dlamini Zuma to Host and Chair
Forum on Comores Friday, 20 June 2003
Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma,
in her capacity as Chairperson of the AU Executive Council
of Ministers and Co-ordinator of Countries of the Region
will host and chair a Forum on the Comores on Friday,
20th June 2003 at the Presidential Guesthouse, in Pretoria.
The Comores Forum will be attended by the Vice-Presidents
of the Union of the Comores Abdou Soulé El Bak
of Grande Comores, Mohamed Said Fazul of Mohéli
and Colonel Mohamed Bacar of dAnjouan; the African
Union Commission; the Special Envoy to the Comores,
Minister Madeira of Mozambique, the Deputy Minister
of Foreign Affairs of Tanzania, Professor Abdulkadir
Shareef, and the Governor-General of the Island of Zanzibar.
The Comores Forum will focus on recent developments
in the Comores and steps to be taken to enable the country
to hold democratic local elections as soon as possible.
In addition, the finalisation of the Constitutional
Process will be discussed.
The Comorean delegation arrived in South Africa on
Sunday 15 June 2003 and will hold meetings with several
South African institutions including the Independent
Electoral Commission (IEC); the Africa Institute of
South Africa; the Receiver of Revenue; the Speaker of
Parliament, Dr. Frene Ginwala; the Speaker of the Western
Cape Legislature and members of the Foreign Relations
Portfolio Committee in parliament.
