Statement on the Closing Session of
the Inter-Congolese Dialogue
South Africa would later today - Wednesday, 2nd April
2003 - host the closing session of the final plenary
of the Inter-Congolese dialogue in Sun City.
The session will culminate in the signing of the Global
and Inclusive Agreement on the transition in the Democratic
Republic of Congo (DRC).
This agreement lays the framework for the formation
of a transitional government for a period of 2 years.
In terms of this agreement, President Josef Kabila remains
president of the DRC and will be assisted by 4 vice-presidents
- from the government of the DRC, the NLC, the RCD-Goma
and the Unarmed Political opposition.
The ceremony in Sun City will be attended by the presidents
of South Africa, Thabo Mbeki; Zambia, Levi Manawasa;
Zimbabwe, Robert Mugabe; Botswana, Festus Magae and
Namibia Sam Nujoma. Prime Minister Mgumbi of Mozambique
will also attend the ceremony.
South Africa's Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr. Nkosazana
Dlamini Zuma will along with the Foreign Ministers of
Uganda, Angola, Botswana and Tanzania attend the ceremony.
Ambassadors to South Africa from Angola and Rwanda,
Francisco Morjos and Dr. Josef Koremera respectively
will represent their countries at the ceremony.
