President Mbeki to Attend the ECOWAS Meeting on Liberia

President Thabo Mbeki, in his capacity as Chairperson of the African Union (AU) will depart South Africa on Wednesday 4 June 2003 for Ghana where he will attend the Ecowas meeting to discuss a peaceful resolution of the conflict in Liberia.

President Mbeki has just returned from a successful interaction between the G8 and a delegation of the African leaders to discuss NEPAD programmes, held in Evian, France. The President was accompanied by Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma.

President Mbeki was invited to the Ecowas meeting during the NEPAD Implementation Committee meeting held in Abuja , Nigeria by the current Chairperson of Ecowas, President of Ghana, John Kufuor. The meeting will last a day.
