Statement on the arrival of the Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr. Dlamini Zuma to attend the Franco-Africa Sunmit in Paris

Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Dlamini Zuma arrived today, Tuesday 18 February 2003 in Paris for the Franco-Africa summit, scheduled for 20-21 February 2003 ahead of President Mbeki. The President will lead the South African delegation and is expected to chair the first working session of the Summit on the team: Political Partnership Peace & Security.

The key issues for discussion at the summit will be the African Union (AU), The New Partnership for Africa Development (NEPAD) and Political Partnership between Africa and the world, prevention and resolution of conflicts in the continent with a specific focus on Ivory Coast

Coming in the wake of international efforts to avert war with Iraq, the Summit will also address the current challenge facing humanity-to find a peaceful resolution of the Iraqi situation..
