Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr NC Dlamini Zuma departs Teheran on Friday, 30 May 2003 for the G8-Summit in Evian as part of the South African Delegation that will be lead by President Thabo Mbeki.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs has been visiting Teheran since Tuesday, 27 May 2003 to address the 30th Session of the Organisation of the Islamic Conference (OIC) of foreign ministers in her capacity as the chairperson of the African Union Executive Council of Ministers.

In her address, Minister Dlamini Zuma noted that "in recent times, we have witnessed the weakening of the United Nations and the drift towards unilaterlism". The Minister further stated the need to reassert the centrality of the United Nations in all global affairs, be they, economic, political or social.

Concluding her remarks the Minister noted the contribution of the African Union and the OIC to the rich social, cultural and religious legacy of humanity. Elaborating on this legacy, the Minister observed that "it (legacy) has nourished civilization for thousand of years and continue to underpin the fabric of both societies".

The Minister told the conference that "it is this rich tapestry that must continue to be shared and celebrated amongst all humanity".

In addition to bilateral meetings with Iranian Foreign Minister, Dr Kamal Karrazi, Minister Dlamini Zuma met with several member states of the OIC on current issues of both bilateral and multilateral interest.
