Minister Dlamini Zuma to Attend NAM
Meeting on Reconstruction of Iraq, France, 2-3 May 2003

Zuma departs South Africa today, Wednesday 30 April
for Paris, France for the Non Aligned Movement (NAM)
Ministerial Troika meeting scheduled for 2-3 May 2003
on Iraq.
The agenda of the meeting includes discussions of:
· The role of the Non-Aligned Movement and the
UN in the reconstruction and provision of humanitarian
aid to Iraq.
· Membership of Iraq in the NAM
· Status and staffing of diplomatic missions
of Iraq
· Follow up on NAM Summit statements on Iraq.
The meeting will be attended by Foreign Ministers of
South Africa, Malaysia and Cuba, who constitutes the
NAM Ministerial Troika.
The meeting takes place against the background of the
decision of the NAM Heads of State and Government Summit
held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia in February 2003 to ensure
the revitalisation of the NAM so as to meet the challenges
facing it in the 21st century.
In this regard, the NAM Summit in Malaysia decided
to take steps aimed at strengthening the office of the
Chairperson (currently Malaysia) as well as the NAM
Ministerial Troika in order to enable the movement to
take its rightful place on international issues as well
as to respond to current international challenges.
The Minister will be accompanied by Foreign Affairs
Acting Director-General Abdul Minty.
