Minister of Foreign Affairs. Dr. Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma departs South Africa today, Wednesday 30 April for Paris, France for the Non Aligned Movement (NAM) Ministerial Troika meeting scheduled for 2-3 May 2003 on Iraq.

The agenda of the meeting includes discussions of:
· The role of the Non-Aligned Movement and the UN in the reconstruction and provision of humanitarian aid to Iraq.
· Membership of Iraq in the NAM
· Status and staffing of diplomatic missions of Iraq
· Follow up on NAM Summit statements on Iraq.

The meeting will be attended by Foreign Ministers of South Africa, Malaysia and Cuba, who constitutes the NAM Ministerial Troika.

The meeting takes place against the background of the decision of the NAM Heads of State and Government Summit held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia in February 2003 to ensure the revitalisation of the NAM so as to meet the challenges facing it in the 21st century.

In this regard, the NAM Summit in Malaysia decided to take steps aimed at strengthening the office of the Chairperson (currently Malaysia) as well as the NAM Ministerial Troika in order to enable the movement to take its rightful place on international issues as well as to respond to current international challenges.
The Minister will be accompanied by Foreign Affairs Acting Director-General Abdul Minty.
