President Mbeki to Attend Hand Over Ceremony In Liberia, Monday 11 August 2003

President Thabo Mbeki, accompanied by the Minister of Foreign Affairs - Dr Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma will depart Monday, 11th August 2003 for Monrovia, Liberia to attend the ceremony during which President Charles Taylor will hand over power to his Vice President, Moses Blah.

Earlier this year, in his capacity as then Chairperson of the African Union, President Mbeki had been involved in efforts to bring about peace and stability in Liberia.

Monday's ceremony is expected to be attended by, among others, the current Chair of the African Union, Mozambican President Joachim Chissano and the Chair of ECOWAS, President John Kufuor of Ghana.
