President Mbeki leaves for Nigeria, to attend the NEPAD Heads of State and Government Implementation Committee Meeting in Abuja

Union Buildings - President Thabo Mbeki will tomorrow, Wednesday May 28, depart for Abuja, Nigeria, to attend the NEPAD Heads of State and Government Implementation Committee Meeting on May 28.

The President will together with other African Heads of State and Government also attend the Swearing-in Ceremony of President Olusegun Obasanjo on Thursday May 29.

President Mbeki will then proceed to France, Evian, for the G8 Summit of June 1 - 2.

The 7th NEPAD Heads of State and Government Implementation Committee Meeting is crucial to the advancement of Africa's development agenda, especially since it takes place a few days prior to the G8 Summit. This meeting will therefore create space for African leaders further to prepare for the G8 Summit and consider the NEPAD/G8 partnership.
