Minister Dlamini Zuma Arrives in Nigeria
for the NEPAD Heads of State Implementation Committee
Meeting
Minister of Foreign affairs, Dr. Nkosazana Dlamini
Zuma arrived in Abuja, Nigeria, Friday 7 March 2003,
where she will form part of the South African Government
delegation led by President Thabo Mbeki to the NEPAD
Heads of State Implementation Committee Meeting scheduled
for 9 March in Abuja, Nigeria.
Minister Dlamini Zuma concluded a successful visit
to Chad where she attended and chaired the Executive
Council of Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the AU. The
main issue discussed was proposals for funding of the
AU by member states, terrorism, peace and security in
the continent with a specific focus on Burundi, Angola
and Ivory Coast.
The Council also discussed candidature for the AU Commission.
The Abuja meeting will discuss the NEPAD Peer Review
Mechanism with particular reference to its objectives,
standards, criteria and performance indicators, receive
reports of the NEPAD Steering Committee, the implementation
of the NEPAD infrastructure and the review of the development
effectiveness between Africa and its partners
The following countries will be represented at the
meeting: South Africa, Botswana, Mozambique, Algeria,
Egypt, Tunisia, Senegal, Mali,Nigeria. Mauritius, Rwanda,
Ethiopia, Cameroon, Gabon and the Republic of Congo.
