Public Consultation: The SADC Protocol
on the Free Movement of Persons
The Immigration Advisory Board will be hosting a public
consultation on the SADC Protocol on the Free Movement
of Persons in Cape Town on 2 October 2003.
The objectives of the Protocol are the facilitation
of entry into Member States without a visa for a period
of ninety days per bona fide visit as well as taking
up of residence and employment in the territory of another
Member State.
South Africa is at this stage not a signatory to this
Protocol. The public consultation will deliberate on
the implications for South Africa as a SADC member,
focussing on migration issues, crime combating considerations,
labour concerns as well as the implications on tourism
in the region.
