Zuma Arrives in Angola, 22 August 2004
Deputy President Jacob Zuma today, 22 August 2004,
arrived in Luanda, Republic of Angola, for a three day
official visit aimed at further strengthening relations
between the two countries.
The Deputy President is accompanied by
· Minister of Defence Mosiuoa Lekota
· Minister of Transport Jeff Radebe
· Minister of Trade and Industry Mandisi Mpahlwa
· Deputy Minister of Minerals and Energy Lulu

Among his engagements, the Deputy President will pay
a courtesy call on President Jose Eduardo dos Santos
and have discussions with Prime Minister Fernando da
Piedade Dias dos Santos and the President of the Angolan
National Assembly, Mr Roberto de Almeida.
The discussions are expected to focus on improving areas
of political, social and economic co-operation, the
strengthening of the African Union including the New
Partnership for Africa's Development, and working for
peace and stability in the continent.
The Deputy President will also meet with representatives
of the business community of the two countries to promote
economic linkages. The two governments have warm relations
based on a history of solidarity during the struggle
for liberation. The bilateral relations in the post-apartheid
period have been formalised through various mechanisms
including agreements on agriculture, health and other
fields.
The Deputy President will return to South Africa on
Wednesday, 25 August 2004
