10 Years of Freedom: South Africa Thanks Luxembourg for its Support

Freedom Day of South Africa, 27 April, will be celebrated in Luxembourg on 23 April 2004 at the Salle des fêtes Anciens Thermes, from 12:30 to 14:30 at Domaine Thermal de Mondorf. This will provide South Africa the opportunity to thank the people of Luxembourg for their unrelenting support for a free, democratic and prosperous South Africa. This historic day will be celebrated with the Government and people of Luxembourg. HE M. Charles Goerens, Minister of Co-operation and Humanitarian Assistance of Luxembourg will be the Guest of Honour at the reception.

An exhibition "Rediscover South Africa-10 years on..." of musicians, dancers, craftsmen and women, tourism and cultural industries leaves no doubt that South Africa's diverse cultural traditions have come of age and are prospering. This exhibition will take place at the same venue from 23 to 25 April. HE Ambassador Jerry Matjila, Ambassador to Belgium, Luxembourg and the European Communities, will inaugurate the exhibition on 23 April 2003 at the Salle des Fêtes at 14:30.

South Africa's cultural diversity and its rich history are increasingly acknowledged as being amongst the country's biggest tourism assets, apart from the variety of its impressive landscapes and the wealth of plant and animal life in each of its nine provinces. Some of the provinces are here to showcase their assets.

It has been 10 years since the country's first free and democratic elections were held and the entire population could shelter hope for a better life. These celebrations provide the opportunity to become re-acquainted with every aspect of South Africa - its achievements as well as the challenges ahead. This will also provide an opportunity to reinvigorate South Africa's solidarity and co-operation with the people of Luxembourg.
