Deputy President Jacob Zuma in Burundi

Deputy President Jacob Zuma has arrived in Bujumbura, Burundi, today, 17 June 2004, for talks with Burundi parties regarding post election power-sharing.

The Deputy President was mandated by the 21st Summit of the Great Lakes Regional Peace Initiative on Burundi on 5 June 2004, to help the Transitional Government of Burundi and the Burundi parties reach a compromise on outstanding issues relating to power-sharing.

The Deputy President is scheduled to return to South Africa tomorrow, 18 June 2004.
