Deputy President Jacob Zuma to Attend Burundi's Independence Day Celebrations, Bujumbura, Burundi Thursday, 1 July 2004

Burundi - South Africa's Deputy President, Jacob Zuma will on Thursday, 1 July 2004, attend Burundi's Independence Day Celebrations in Bujumbura, Burundi the celebrations are being hosted by the President of the Transitional Government of Burundi, Domitien Ndayizeye.

Burundi gained its independence from Belgium on 1 July 1962.

Deputy President Zuma has been playing an important role as the facilitator of the Burundia peace process since 2000, following on the mediation role played by former President Nelson Mandela.
