South African Consular Officials sent to Cayman Islands

The Director-General of Foreign Affairs, Dr Ayanda Ntsaluba, today Thursday, 16 September 2004, following consultations with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma, has decided to dispatch two senior Foreign Affairs consular officials to the Cayman Islands to provide support to South African citizens following the devastation by Hurricane Ivan.

The consular officials, who are expected to reach the Cayman Islands on Friday, 17 September 2004, have been dispatched from our diplomatic missions in Washington and New York. South Africa does not have a diplomatic mission in the Cayman Islands.

Further consular support will be rendered to those South Africans who have managed to leave the Cayman Islands and are currently in Miami, Florida.

South Africa remains committed to assisting its citizens wherever they may find themselves in distress around the world.
