President Thabo Mbeki to Host the President of Equatorial Guinea, President Teodoro Obiang Nguema M'Basogo, Pretoria, South Africa Wednesday, 14 July 2004

President Thabo Mbeki will host his counterpart from Equatorial Guinea, President Teodoro Obiang Nguema M'Basogo for bilateral political and economic discussions on Wednesday, 14 July 2004 in Pretoria, South Africa.

President Obiang Nguema who is on a working visit to South Africa from Tuesday, 13 - Wednesday, 14 July 2004, is expected to be accompanied by, among others, Foreign Minister, Pastor Micha Ondo Bile.

South Africa hosted President Obiang Nguema on a working visit in December 2003, when a General Co-operation Agreement between the two countries was signed.

In February 2004, the Foreign Minister, Pastor Micha Ondo Bile, visited South Africa to negotiate and sign a Reciprocal Agreement on the Promotion and Protection of Investments.

In terms of the General Co-operation Agreement, it is expected that senior government officials from Equatorial Guinea will travel to South Africa towards the end of the year to begin discussions on the establishment of a Joint Binational Commission between the two countries.

In addition, as part of the continued expansion of South African diplomatic presence and activity in the Central African region, South Africa will soon open its first diplomatic mission in Malabo later this year.
